On his last working day as a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari emphasised on the importance of hard work. .The judge was sitting in a ceremonial bench with Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha. "There is no substitute for hard work...I started as a trial court lawyer. 'Miss you' carries with it a bit of sorrow, I say substitute it with 'remember you'," the judge said. .He added that none of his work at the Supreme Court would have been possible without team-work, and paid tribute to contributions from members of the bar, other judges, law clerks and more."No individual can perform. I always say 'we' rather than 'I'.".The CJI discussed his long association with Justice Maheshwari starting from when they were judges of the Allahabad High Court."He has been a gentleman, friendly judge. I don't think if he would even remember when he last lost his temper," the CJI said..Appearing before the Bench, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta recalled Justice Maheshwari's courtesy towards everyone who appeared before him. "We are indeed privileged to have appeared before My Lord. We would remember your lordships courteous behaviour, addressing us as Sir or Madam. Even when we have lost a case, we have left with a smile on our face.".Senior Advocate Vikas Singh remarked that the judge was retiring too soon and that it was a great loss to the institution. "I always say this is no age to retire, but it is not in our hands. This is the peak of your career. To lose your Lordships, is a great loss to the institution.".Senior Advocate AM Singhvi recalled that Justice Maheshwari's court always had a great sense of humour, and lawyers left with a very warm feeling..Attorney General R Venkataramani termed the judge a "grand equaliser"."We are all same in his court. Every judge who becomes part of the institution never leaves. Every judge leaves their imprint in their own unique way."
