“The truth and nothing but the truth”, Sarosh Zaiwalla hits back at allegations of defamation made by Abhishek Manu Singhvi

Sarosh Zaiwalla, Senior Partner at London-based Zaiwalla & Co Solicitors, has responded to allegations of defamation made by Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi by stating that the contents of his book ‘Honour Bound’ are “nothing but the truth”..Singhvi had earlier sent Zaiwalla a legal notice claiming that the latter’s book contained passages that defamed his late father, LM Singhvi..Zaiwalla has now countered these allegations, describing the statements made in Singhvi’s legal notice as being “dishonest and defamatory”..In response to the legal notice, Zaiwalla has stated:.“What I have said in my book ‘Honour Bound’, published by Harper Collins India is the truth and nothing but the truth. There will be evidence of what I wrote and I intend to stand by it.Dr Singhvi is attempting to misconstrue what I have said in my book. He is merely trying to bully with a press campaign.It was wrong and despicable of Dr Singhvi and his lawyer to rush for the publication of his libel notice, which contains dishonest defamatory statements, before I had even received the libel notice from his lawyer.Libel proceedings are to be decided by a court and not by a press campaign.Dr Singhvi has no case for libel. If he had a strong case, he would not have initiated an undignified bullying press campaign.”.In his book Honour Bound, Zaiwalla made a reference that he was told by a Swiss government official that a certain Indian lawyer was responsible for handing then External Affairs Minister Madhavisinh Solanki an envelope containing a letter urging the Swiss government to close its inquiry into the kickbacks received by Indian politicians in the Bofors deal..[Exclusive]: Abhishek M Singhvi sends defamation notice to Sarosh Zaiwalla for claims that LM Singhvi tried to stifle Bofors investigation .The notice sent by Singhvi also refers to Zaiwalla’s interview with Times of India published on February 23.
