Folk singer Malini Awasthi has sent a legal notice to Congress' National Coordinator of social media Gaurav Pandhi for an allegedly defamatory tweet..It was alleged that in a tweet dated May 19, Pandhi made an allegation that Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi was acting like a BJP member because his wife Malini Awasthi was earning crores of rupees by conducting hundreds of shows for the UP government. .The legal notice issued through Advocate Namit Saxena states that Pandhi's tweet was scandalous and malicious. This act cannot be justified by any stretch of logic or reasoning as it is totally false and completely baseless, the notice says..The notice further claims that Pandhi intended to harm Awasthi's reputation through the tweet. It states,."That your tweet which has been in public domain has been authored by you with a sole intent and purpose to cause harm and injury to my client and her reputation which has been built up over the years. The same has been mischievously authored to bring ill repute to her family and her supporters.".Moreover, the tweet also carried separate pictures of Awasthi and her husband without obtaining their consent, the notice contends. .The notice goes on to contend,."That your tweet belittles the hard work put in by my client who has been a performing artist since 1984 and has had a successful performing career of over 4 decades where she has performed in India and abroad while making the nation proud. Your tweet is defamatory to not only my client but is a blatant attack on her reputation and good will which she has earned by taking folk music to newer heights by spreading the message of our traditions and values…Your tweet tarnishes her reputation by maligning the years of practice she has put in music."Legal notice by Malini Awasthii. In view of these grounds, Awasthi has urged Pandhi to "tender an unconditional apology stating clearly that the aspersions cast by you via the abovesaid tweet are frivolous, false and incorrect"..Further, the notice calls upon Pandhi to immediately remove/delete the tweet..In case of any failure to comply with the terms of the notice, it was cautioned that appropriate legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, would be initiated against Pandhi. .Read the notice here
