Srinagar native Tasneem Kawoos has topped the Jammu & Kashmr Civil Services (Judicial) Examination, 2023 with 628 marks..Out of 208 candidates who wrote the exam, 69 passed the interview..Kawoos is a graduate of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and is currently doing her LL.M. at AMU. Speaking to Bar & Bench on her experience of the exam, she said,"The trend has changed, exams don't demand extensive theoretical answers, but the focus has shifted to appraisal of legal issues involved, which requires an analytical approach and clarity of concepts. Though theoretical knowledge is basic and essential, one has to work to develop the skill of analysing facts, understanding legal issues and comprehensive understanding law, rather than a bare knowledge of the provisions. This demands for a disciplined and dedicated study routine.".She added that legal journals which present abridged forms of judgments in the form of headnotes and short notes are really helpful, as they save time..She also secured the 8th rank in the Prosecuting Officer (PO) examination conducted by the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC).
