Supreme Court upholds HC order to announce schedule for Punjab municipal polls
The Court said that the State's reliance on the pending delimitation process was misplaced, particularly because no significant changes in population or municipal boundaries had occurred.
The Supreme Court on Monday upheld a Punjab and Haryana High Court order that had directed the State Election Commission and the Punjab government to announce the schedule for elections to five municipal corporations and 42 municipal councils in the State within fifteen days [State of Punjab and ors v Beant Kumar and anr].
