The Supreme Court today sought the response of the Chief Secretaries of all the defaulter states for their failure to appoint a Lokayukta..A Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R Banumathi passed the order in a petition filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay..At the outset, Justice Gogoi asked the counsel present in the jam-packed court room how many states have not appointed Lokayuktas..It was eventually submitted that a total of twelve States – Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Nagaland; and two Union Territories – Delhi and Puducherry – have not yet appointed a Lokayukta..However, it is not clear if State of Orissa has appointed a Lokayukta.
