Supreme Court seeks Bihar's response to RJD plea against Patna High Court order quashing reservation law

The reservation for SC/STs and backward classes was increased to 65 per cent in 2023, reducing the open merit category to 35 percent. The decision was struck down by the Patna High Court in June this year.

The Supreme Court Friday issued notice on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)'s plea challenging Patna High Court's decision to quash the Bihar law to increase reservation for Backward Classes, Extremely Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs) in the State from 50 per cent to 65 percent in public employment and educational institutions [Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) v State of Bihar and Ors].
