Supreme Court refuses to stay probe against UP Congress President Ajai Rai under Gangsters Act

The Court issued notice to the State of UP on Rai's plea challenging the decision of the Allahabad High Court which had refused to quash the case against Rai. However, the apex court did not grant any interim relief.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to stay the criminal proceedings initiated in 2010 against Uttar Pradesh (UP) Congress President Ajai Rai under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986 (Gangsters Act) [Ajai Rai and Others v. State of Uttar Pradesh and Another].
