The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking to scrap the lifelong pension given to former Members of Parliament (MPs)..The judgment was rendered by a Bench of Justices Jasti Chelameswar and Sanjay Kishan Kaul in a plea by NGO Lok Prahari challenging a verdict of Allahabad High Court..It was the contention of the petitioner that pension and other perks being given to MPs even after demitting office are contrary to Article 14 of the Constitution..The Central government had opposed the stand of the petitioner stating that the same was justified..“MPs have to go for elections every five year.
