In a landmark development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a new website of the Supreme Court of India, which will feature the Integrated Case Management Information System..The much publicised launch happened at Vigyan Bhavan in the presence of Chief Justice of India, Justice JS Khehar, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and other Supreme Court judges..The Integrated Case Management Information System will make filing of cases digital. The digital filing would be a big improvement over the existing e-filing. With digital filing, the litigant would be required to file just the grounds of appeal to the Supreme Court and the system will automatically retrieve other documents pertaining to the case from the concerned High Court..This would effectively mean doing away with bulky paperbook, as large annexures, judgments etc. would now be retrieved electronically and the parties would not be required to file the same in hard copy in Supreme Court..Besides, the parties to the case will be updated regularly about the status of the case, court fees needed for filing, delay etc..The new filing facility is expected to be active when the court re-opens after summer vacation..The launch of ICMIS is the first big step in the journey towards a paperless court. The Chief Justice of India today said that the objective would be to replicate this in all High Courts and subordinate courts in the country..Read a report of today’s function at Vigyan Bhavan here.
