He practised in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, and was appointed a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in October 2004..He served as Acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court twice, also heading the Green Bench of the High Court before he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court in 2013. In 2016, he was transferred to take charge as the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. In February 2017, Justice Deepak Gupta was elevated as a Supreme Court judge. Justice Gupta attains 65 years of age tomorrow i.e. May 7.
