Supreme Court of India has disposed of a total of 5,113 cases in the last 13 days after Justice UU Lalit took over as the Chief Justice of India UU (CJI)..Bar & Bench has learnt that the top court has disposed of 3,618 miscellaneous matters, 283 regular hearing matters and 1,212 transfer petitions in the last 13 days since CJI UU Lalit brought in the new system of listing of cases..For cases filed since August 29 till today, the top court record shows that a total of 1,135 cases were filed, 875 cases were refiled, 797 cases were registered and 981 were verified cases..One of the first changes introduced by CJI lalit after he took over as the CJI, was regarding the hearing of cases on non-miscellaneous days.As per the same, on non-miscellaneous days, the Supreme Court currently hears regular matters in the morning session (10.30 am to 1 pm) and miscellaneous and after notice matters in the afternoon session (2 pm to 4 pm).The norm earlier was to take up miscellaneous matters first and then proceed to the regular-hearing..CJI Lalit in one of the public events had stated that in his 74-day long tenure, his main focus would be on listing of cases, mentioning of urgent matters, Constitution benches.
