The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea seeking Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) verification of all Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)..The petition filed by a few technocrats was mentioned today for urgent listing before the Vacation Bench of Justices Arun Mishra and MR Shah..The Bench at first refused to list the matter on the ground that a similar matter had already been decided by a Bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi..However, when the lawyer pressed for the matter to be listed and urged the Court to hear the case, Justice Mishra took the matter on board only to dismiss it..Terming this petition a “nuisance”, Justice Mishra said that the Court cannot entertain similar pleas repeatedly. He said,.“Let the Country elect its government”..The Supreme Court had on April 8 ordered that hat the number of EVMs with respect to which VVPAT paper trail is verified be raised from 1 EVM to 5 EVMs per Assembly Segment/ Assembly Constituency.
