The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided not to allow advance adjournment requests by way of circulating adjournment slips/ letters till December 15. .A circular to this effect was issued by the Supreme Court Registrar.It stated that the move will be in the interest of litigants so as to ensure listing of maximum cases before the upcoming winter vacation of the Court.The Court will remain closed from December 16, 2023 to January 1, 2024. "In order to accommodate the request of listing maximum number of cases in the interest of litigants and in view of the ensuing winter vacation, all stakeholders to note that the practice of circulating adjournment slips/letters is discontinued with immediate effect till December 15, 2023," the circular said..In cases involving of genuine difficulties, adjournment requests can be made before the court concerned, the circular clarified.Earlier in the day, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) had taken exception to the fact that over 200 adjournment slips were circulated on Monday.."This Monday we had 15 benches, and almost 205 adjournment slips were given.
