The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, on Tuesday recommended the appointment of four district judges as judges of Madras High Court..The recommended judges are:R SakthivelP DhanabalChinnasamy KumarappanK Rajasekar.According to the Collegium resolution uploaded on the Supreme Court website on Wednesday, the Madras High Court Collegium made the recommendation on August 10, 2022 with the concurrence of the Chief Minister and the Governor of Tamil Nadu."In order to ascertain the fitness and suitability of the above-named judicial officers for elevation to the High Court, in terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, this Collegium has consulted the Judges of the Supreme Court conversant with the affairs of the Madras High Court," the resolution added.Pertinently, the Collegium in its resolution said that it had by previous resolution dated January 17 recommended the appointment of advocate Ramaswamy Neelakandan and reiterated the appointment of R John Sathyan to Madras High Court. These two names are yet to be cleared by the government, the Collegium said.Hence, it asked the government to notify the appointments of Neelakandan and Sathyan saying that withholding recommendations disturbs seniority. .As on February 1, the Madras High Court was operating with 52 judges, 23 judges short of its full strength of 75..[Read Resolution]
