The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday recommended the appointment of Justice P S Dinesh Kumar as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court upon proposed elevation of Chief Justice, Justice Prasanna B Varale to the Supreme Court..Justice Kumar has been a judge of the Karnataka High Court since 2015 and is set to retire on February 24. While recommending his name for appointment as Chief Justice, the Collegium said,“He has acquired sufficient experience on the judicial and administrative side as a puisne judge of the High Court. He is due to demit office on superannuation on 24 February 2024 and will have a tenure as a Chief Justice of little over a month. He is endowed with high level of integrity, honesty and competence. He has served the High Court of Karnataka with distinction since his appointment.”.The Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai in the resolution also recorded that it is conscious of the fact that in the seniority of judges of Karnataka High Court, Justice Kumar is second senior-most after Justice Narendar G who is currently posted at Andhra Pradesh High Court..Before his elevation to the bench in 2015, Justice Kumar had been in practice as a lawyer since 1990 and appeared in several important cases in different High Courts and the Supreme Court.[Read Resolution]
