Supreme Court seeks Centre's response in plea to implement Women's Reservation Act before 2024 elections

The Bench had earlier remarked that it could not step into the legislative domain by issuing the directions prayed for in the petition filed by Congress leader Dr Jaya Thakur.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought the response of the Central government in a plea praying that the recently enacted law providing for reservation of 33 per cent for women in Parliament and state legislative assemblies be implemented before the 2024 general elections [Dr Jaya Thakur v. Union of India and Ors].
