The Supreme Court has directed Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to deactivate a mobile tower..The interim order asking BSNL to deactivate the tower was passed in a petition filed by one Harish Chand Tiwari alleging that he was afflicted by cancer due to radiation from the tower..The order was passed by a Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Navin Sinha on March 30..Tiwari had moved Supreme Court contending that the tower installed on the rooftop of a neighbour’s house in 2002 had exposed him to radiation eventually afflicting him with cancer..In its order of March 30, the Court directed the following:.“We also direct that the particular mobile tower operated by B.S.N.L. in the area mentioned in Writ Petition (Civil) No.387 of 2016 shall be deactivated by the B.S.N.L. within seven days from today.”.Besides Tiwari, others have also moved the Supreme Court citing harmful effects of radiation from mobile towers..The Court is hearing all the cases together.
