The Supreme Court is hearing a plea filed by jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest and remand in the Delhi excise policy case.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 on allegations that he was part of a conspiracy to leave behind loopholes in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy of 2021-22, which were allegedly meant to benefit certain liquor sellers.

The ED has alleged that the kickbacks received from this 'scam' were used by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to fund their election campaigns in Goa.

Others accused in the case include former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, AAP Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha. Singh is out on bail, while Sisodia and Kavitha remain in jail.

Kejriwal is also due to be produced before a Delhi trial court later today to consider whether his remand in judicial custody should be extended.

Notably, during the last hearing of Kejriwal's plea before the Supreme Court, the top court had informed that it may consider whether Kejriwal should be released on interim bail in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had added that it has not decided one way or another, but would be inclined to hear arguments on the aspect of interim bail as the hearing for final relief might take time.
