Supreme Court asks Amity Chairman for explanation on Sushant Rohilla’s letter

The Supreme Court has today asked Amity Law School Chairman and Founder Ashok Chauhan to detail the steps taken by the administration after receiving Sushant Rohilla’s “desperate” letter, pleading that he should not be forced to repeat the year because of his poor attendance..A Bench of Justices RK Agrawal and UU Lalit insisted on hearing Chauhan after a cursory round of arguments, allegations and explanations in the Apex Court today..The Bench also heard Rohilla’s sister, who has filed an intervention application stating that Amity has filed an affidavit full of falsehoods. She requested that Rohilla’s side of the story be considered as well..The Supreme Court is acting suo motu on a letter written by Rohilla’s friend, Raghav Sharma, to the former CJI TS Thakur. The letter had alleged that the demise of Rohilla was directly caused by harassment faced at the hands of teachers and the administration at the Amity Law School. .Senior Advocate Fali Nariman, who was appointed Amicus in the matter, today demanded that the administration must give an explanation for their attitude in the matter. He also noted that the incident itself was “unfortunate” and the Amity law School should be held accountable..Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, who appeared for Amity Law School, tried to argue that the institution was only implementing the BCI’s guidelines, but the Bench seemed bent on hearing Chairman Chauhan on the issue..Justice RK Agrawal noted, .“You may have a perfect explanation [for the incident]. We are not commenting on that at the moment.”.The Bench then directed the Chairman to file an affidavit, following which the matter will be further probed.
