The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday said that the stray cattle menace in the State has gone out of control and proportion. .A Division Bench of Chief Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Ashutosh J Shastri asked the State government to take serious action to tackle the issue in major cities in the State. "Mr Advocate General, this cattle menace has gone out of proportion and control. You (State) need to seriously do something about it now," Chief Justice Kumar remarked..The remark was made after Advocate General Kamal Trivedi sought some time and requested for an adjournment in the matter. The Court accepted the request and granted time till January 9, 2023 for the State to come up with a comprehensive action plan to tackle the issue..The Bench was seized of a clutch of petitions highlighting the stray cattle menace in Ahmedabad and other major cities in Gujarat. Today, when the matter was called out, the Bench took note of a tragic incident where a defence personnel was attacked by a stray cattle. "I watched on TV channels yesterday (Monday) some defence personnel was brutally attacked (by cattle) in Rajkot. He seems to have been severely injured. Please do something about this issue," CJ Kumar told the AG. .The Bench had earlier taken suo motu cognizance of another incident wherein a 35-year-old man died in a similar attack. It has been repeatedly asking the State to come up with concrete measures to tackle the issue.In October, it had ordered local and State authorities to personally appear before it to explain the steps taken to deal with the problem.
