The Delhi High Court has got a new spot for freshly brewed coffee, court canards and legal parley with American multinational Starbucks opening an outlet in the court complex..Dozens of lawyers, interns and law researchers flocked to the ground floor of S Block of the High Court on Tuesday, some just to get a glimpse of the first Starbucks in the court, others to get their Frappuccino, Lattes and Americano..The store was formally inaugurated by the High Court judges and the members of the Delhi High Court Bar Association on Tuesday evening.Speaking on the occasion, Acting Chief Justice Manmohan revealed that the High Court will soon have McDonald’s and Sagar Ratna stores too.Justice V Kameswar Rao quipped that with the opening of Starbucks and McDonald’s, the Delhi High Court is going international.“I hope with these new facilities, the cohesiveness among the members of the bar will increase,” he added. .Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) President Mohit Mathur said that even the Delhi High Court Glass Canteen is going to get an overhaul and this will ensure a complete balance of requirements of the bar members..However, the new Starbucks store is not being seen as a competition by the people working at the old High Court canteen and no one expects Starbucks to match the old coffee outlets which sell thousands of cups of cold-coffee every day at a meagre price ₹30 a cup.“I sell more than 1,000 cups of coffee every day. I do not think Starbucks is a competition for us. Look at our prices. You can buy 10 cups of this cold coffee for one of theirs,” a worker at one of the three coffee outlets at the old canteen said.Lawyers sing praises of the cold-coffees sold at the DHCBA cafeteria and the subsidised food there makes it affordable for all..Justice Manmohan, during inauguration of Starbucks outlet, also stressed that both the old canteen and the new one will prosper because each has a different segment to address.
