A complaint has been filed in the Hare Street Police Station in Kolkata against former Supreme Court judge, Justice AK Ganguly, by NGO Bharat Bachao Sangathan regarding the alleged sexual harassment of the NUJS intern..The complaint has been filed after the Kolkata police refused to take suo moto action against Justice Ganguly after the 3 member Supreme Court Committee had named him as the alleged perpetrator in the sexual harassment episode..The complaint, a copy of which is with Bar & Bench, states that,.“We are concernd that Mr. Ganguly being a highly influential person, there is every chance that the witnesses/ victim could be influenced/ coerced and the evidence could be tampered with….Looking to the seriousness of the issue, we request you that the facts should be brought to light and the person found to be gulity be brought to books.”.Speaking to Bar & Bench, one of the officials of Bharat Bachao Sangathan said that,.“We have filed a complaint. The police has said that they will look into the matter and take appropriate action within 48 hours.”.The NUJS intern had written in her blog about the alleged sexual harassment by a recently retired judge of the Supreme Court. Subsequently, when the matter appeared in the media, the Supreme Court had constituted a 3 member Committee to inquire into the matter and submit a report on the same. The victim had deposed before the Committee and a report by NDTV had claimed that Justice Ganguly also testified before the Committee..The Committee had, thereafter, submitted its report to the Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam naming Justice AK Ganguly as the alleged perpetrator. Justice Ganguly had, however, denied the allegations..In a report which appeared in the Times of India today, it has been stated that the retired judge made advances towards the law intern despite her clear and vocal disapproval of his conduct.
