Malayalam film director VK Prakash has moved the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail after he was accused of sexual harassment by a woman..The allegations have been made in the wake of the publication of the Justice K Hema Committee Report on the working conditions of women in the Malayalam film industry. The matter is likely to be mentioned before Justice CS Dias of the Kerala High Court today. .Prakash is one among several film personalities (including actors, directors, production controllers etc.) who are facing allegations of sexual abuse after the August 19 public release of the Justice Hema Committee report. In Prakash's case, a scriptwriter has alleged that she was subjected to sexual harassment in 2022 when she went to narrate a story to the director at a hotel in Kollam. As per reports, she has filed a complaint in the matter with the Director General of Police (DGP).Prakash has vehemently denied the allegations and counter-alleged that this is a form of blackmail. "The petitioner is absolutely innocent of the charges alleged and he has been falsely implicated with reckless allegations with the only intention to blackmail and grab money form the petitioner," his anticipatory bail plea says. He has also claimed that the same lady has been trying to blackmail another producer with similar allegations. .Notably, with rising allegations of sexual abuse against several personalities in Mollywood, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the matter. Criminal cases have also been registered against some of the accused persons including actors Mukesh and Siddique and direction Ranjith. Prakash has raised apprehensions that since it is reported that a complaint with such allegations against him has also been submitted to the SIT, he may also be formally accused of committing the offence under Section 354 (assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Therefore, he has approached the High Court to prevent his possible arrest in the matter. "Since there was a publication of a derogatory sexual molestation allegation against the petitioner, he apprehends that there is a likelihood of him being implicated in a crime involving an offence under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code," the plea states. .The anticipatory bail plea has been filed through advocates Babu S Nair, Smitha Babu, PA Rajesh, Pranav, KP Dhaneesh, and Siddharth Karun Pisharody.
