The Sessions court at Mazgaon in Mumbai on Friday granted bail to Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) leader Sanjay Raut in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya's wife Medha Somaiya.

The court also suspended his 15-day jail sentence.

He was granted bail subject to furnishing bail bonds of ₹50,000.

Raut approached the sessions court in revision against an order of a magistrate court which had convicted him and sentence him to 15 days in jail for defamation.

In her complaint, Somaiya had claimed that Raut made baseless and completely defamatory allegations against her and her husband, accusing them of being involved in a scam worth ₹100 crore in the construction and maintenance of some public toilets under the jurisdiction of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation.
