The Central government on Friday notified the appointment of senior Counsel ARL Sundaresan as the new Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG) for the Madras High Court.
The notification also announced that the incumbent Madras High Court ASG R Sankaranarayanan will be the ASG for the entire southern zone.
Sunderasan is the son of former Supreme Court judge late AR Lakshmanan.
Sunderesan is also the former President of the Madras Bar Association. He was the counsel for the Arumugasamy Commission of Inquiry that was probing the circumstances leading to the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minster J Jayalalithaa.
Senior counsel R Sankaranarayanan was appointed as the ASG for the Madras High Court in June 2020. He has represented the Central government in several matters including the suo motu public interest litigation on checking the spread of COVID19 cases in the state.
The notification said that both Sunderesan and Sankaranarayanan will hold office for a period of three years.
