Senior Advocate Shyamala Pappu passed away yesterday, reports PTI. Pappu, who is a Padma Shree awardee, was eighty-two years old..An alumnus of Miranda House, Delhi University, she was designated Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in 1971. Pappu was actively involved in cases relating to women’s rights. As per the PTI report, she is credited with drafting the amendment which introduced divorce by mutual consent in cases of an irretrievable breakdown of marriage..Pappu was also member of the Law Commission from 2008-2009 and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2009.
