The Supreme Court, on Friday, agreed to hear the petition demanding a CBI probe in the killing of BJP workers in the State of West Bengal. The Court has issued notice to West Bengal seeking its response in this regard..Supreme Court Advocate and BJP Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia moved the Apex Court seeking the investigation in the killing of three BJP workers in West Bengal to the Central Agency..This matter was heard by a Bench of Justice AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan..Bhatia has also sought a direction for facilitating grant of monetary compensation of Rs. 50 lakh to the families of the deceased as well as adequate Police protection to them..Bhatia, in his petition, has claimed these as political killings and has suggested that the three victims were killed owing to their affiliation with the BJP. The petition states,.“That it will not be out of place to mention here that all the three victims, who were brutally murdered were active member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and were murdered because of deep-rooted political enmity that prevails between the ruling party namely All India Trinamool Congress and the B.J.P in the State of West Bengal.”.Placing the blame directly on the ruling party in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC), the petition also alleges that the “environment in West Bengal is hostile to all ideologies” that are different from that of the TMC’s..Alleging inaction on the part of the State government of West Bengal, Bhatia’s petition also goes to say that such incidents have repeatedly taken place with perpetrators roaming scot free. He has accused the Mamata Banerjee government in the State of West Bengal of protecting culprits of such crimes..“It is clear that there is complicity of State Administration and Police authorities in the State of West Bengal with those who commit such heinous crimes and the criminals are protected by the State Government.”.Praying for the investigation in these killings to be handed over to the CBI, Bhatia has reasoned that there will not be a fair and impartial investigation in these cases by the State authorities as the accused belong to the ruling party..“The criminals in the instant crime enjoy full political patronage from the ruling party and even the police doesn’t have the courage to act against such serious criminals.”
