The Supreme Court today pulled up the Delhi High Court for failing to furnish details on civil suits pending in the High Court for more than ten years..A Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R Banumathi quizzed the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court, who was not able to provide certain details..The case, a suo motu petition initiated by the Supreme Court to work out a mechanism to dispose of long pending civil suits in high courts, was taken up as item 2 today..Advocate ADN Rao, appearing for the High Court, submitted a draft of the proposed Delhi High Court Original Side Rules and Practice Directions. The Bench then asked whether the Registrar General was present..When the Registrar General came forward, Justice Gogoi posed a slew of questions..“How many civils suits are pending?.8800.Which is the oldest?.1994.Out of the 8800, how many are more than ten years old?.Around 1300 are filed after 2010.”.However, he was not able to give the figures with respect to civil suits which are more than ten years old..“It is not expected of Registrar General to come unprepared with these figures”, remarked Justice Gogoi..The Court will now take up the matter at the end of the board.
