A Supreme Court Bench was forced to adjourn 17 final hearing matters today as the concerned lawyers failed to appear before the court or were unprepared..The Division Bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and SA Bobde, sitting in court room 8, had to suffer this ignominy..Out of the twenty final hearing matters listed for today, arguments were advanced only in two matters. One was dismissed in default while the rest of the cases were adjourned without any hearing as lawyers from both sides were not present or were not prepared to argue the case..The Bench had to take a long recess in the morning session due to the same. When the Bench reassembled at 2 pm, the situation was no different as only one matter was heard. The Bench then rose before 3 pm but not before it conveyed its displeasure to the SCBA Secretary, Aishwarya Bhati, who was present in the court room..The Bench told Bhati that “such situations cause grave injustice to the litigants and also shows our courts in extremely poor light internationally”..Bhati, then apologized to the Bench on behalf of the Bar and assured the judges that their opinion will be conveyed to the Bar.
