The Punjab & Haryana High Court has for the time being granted the owners of Ryan International School a stay on their arrest in the case related to the murder of a seven-year-old child..Senior Advocates RS Cheema and Randeep Rai represented owners Augustine Pinto, Grace Pinto and Ryan Pinto in two separate petitions filed in the High Court. The seniors were briefed by a team from Karanjawala & Co led by Partner Sandeep Kapur, along with Principal Associates Veer Inder Singh Sandhu and Rajat Soni, and Associate Aashneet Singh Anand..In today’s hearing, Sumeet Goel, who appeared as the retainer counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pleaded for more time to file a reply. At this juncture, the counsel for the petitioners urged the Court to grant a temporary stay on the arrest of the Ryan International owners..Justice Surinder Gupta saw it fit to grant the same, till the next date of hearing on October 7, when further arguments for grant of anticipatory bail will be heard..Last week, Justice Inderjit Singh had refused to stay the arrest of the owners, and issued notice to the Haryana government, seeking its response..A couple of weeks ago, the Bombay High Court had rejected a similar plea filed by the owners of the school..The case had even reached the Supreme Court, with Senior Advocate KTS Tulsi seeking to get the trial transferred out of Haryana in light of the Gurgaon Bar Association’s diktat barring lawyers from representing the school owners..Last week, the apex court held that the trial would continue in the state, issuing a stern warning to the lawyers not to interfere with proceedings..Read the interim order:
