Right or wrong, register FIR when cognizable offence is brought to notice: Bombay High Court to Police

The remarks came from the Court while hearing a PIL which challenged a circular of the Mumbai Police (now withdrawn) which sought for sanction of the DCP for registering FIRs in POCSO and outrgaging modesty of women.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday said that it is the duty of the police to register an FIR when a cognizable offence that has been committed is brought to its notice.
