Delhi Assembly formation: Supreme Court pulls up Centre. The Supreme Court today came down heavily upon the Central government for what it considered as delaying tactics in the formation of the Delhi Assembly. In the petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party, the Court criticised the Centre for its lackadaisical attitude in the matter..“Enough time has been given to you. At least, there must be a positive attitude by you in this matter. In a democratic setup, people have the right to be ruled by a democratically elected government”, remarked Chief Justice HL Dattu..However, Additional Solicitor General PS Narasimha, who represented the Central government, submitted that the Supreme Court does not have the power to set deadlines and give direction to the President to take action in the matter for a period of one year. Senior Advocate KK Venugopal who appeared for the Bharatiya Janata Party also supported this contention. The hearing in the matter will continue on October 30..Black Money: Reveal all names, forget the consequences, Supreme Court to Centre. The Supreme Court today directed the Central government to reveal the names of all foreign account holders tomorrow. A Bench presided by Chief Justice HL Dattu turned down the plea by the Central government that it cannot reveal all the names without completing the investigation and finding illegality as it would adversely affect giving a declaration of confidentiality while signing bilateral agreements..“We are not interested in hiding anything. We are not interested in holding back. But disclosure to the Supreme Court of all the names without finding any illegality might affect further flow of information and might defeat the purpose of this case. We have given all the names to the Special Investigation Team”, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi submitted on behalf of the Central government..The Court, though, was unimpressed. “Why are you trying to create a protective umbrella for these people? Disclose the names of all the foreign account holders tomorrow. We will not modify our earlier order. Give us all the names and we will decide what to do”, the Court said..It will now take up the matter tomorrow morning at 10:30 am..Tomorrow will be the last working day for one of the judges hearing the matter – Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
