[FARMERS PROTESTS] "Red Fort under siege:" PIL filed in Delhi High Court seeking removal of protesters from roads, deployment of paramilitary

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been moved before the Delhi High Court for removal of people sitting on roads "under the garb of Kisaan Agitation" (Dhananjai Jain vs UOI). .The petitioner, Dhananjai Jain, has claimed that he was left "aghast" by the unprecedented developments in various parts of Delhi, including Red Fort, on Republic Day. ."There have been agitations on the border of Delhi for several days, almost two months beginning on or about 26.11.2020..The farmer agitation took a very aggravated and violent turn and the farmers reached the interiors of Delhi armed with weapons, hockey sticks, swords and other assault weapons disturbing the peace and law and order and tranquility in the capital of Delhi city apart from demeaning the Republic Day festivity. Protesters and farmers put the entire capital to ransom and the whole life of capital was brought to stand still," the petition states. .The petitioner has asserted that an agitation has to be on democratic and civilized terms of the Constitution and can, under no circumstances, become violent..The petitioner calls it a "matter of absolute shame" that Delhi Police was "seen in a state of utter helplessness" as it was being "chased, threatened and beaten up by the protesters". ."Despite the police being chased away by the protesters brandishing swords and other weapons of assault, the higher officials of the police did not wield appropriate force to deter and disperse the mob of protesters resulting into structure of the token of sovereignty of India namely the Red Fort being put under siege by the protesters. The national monument and national flag was humiliated by hoisting the flag of the protesters," it is stated. .The petitioner alleged that the Commissioner of Police, Delhi has shown himself to be "thoroughly incompetent", and has, therefore, prayed that adequate para-military forces be deployed in the national capital to protect life of people and monuments. .It is also prayed the present Commissioner of Police, Delhi be removed from his post and all the police officers who failed in discharging their duty be punished. .The petition has been filed through advocate Bhoop Singh.
