PXV Law Partners (PXV) formerly known as RDA Legal has changed its name. It is a three year old firm and has started an office in Mumbai and inducted three partners from AZB, Amarchand and P & A Law Offices..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Managing Partner Rohit Das said, “As a matter of strategy and going forward as a young firm, we felt that it is important to have a professionally managed firm not only internally managed professionally, but also an external feeling of professional management because a lot of people get disillusioned in firms as they do not feel a sense of ownership. So to attract young talent and grow dynamically we thought it would be good if the name of the firm was not associated with any of the founders and was a neutral name and would give all its members including the Partners a greater sense of ownership. We thought it’s the best strategy to bring out the best in people as people are our biggest asset and this is the way forward”..On the three partners, Rohit said, “It’s a great moment for our firm and all the three partners have significant experience in the market with the top three law firms in the country. The partners bring great depth and specialization to the firm and the partnership now includes people who have worked in a cross-section of India’s best law firms. With them we have been able to not only boost our general corporate and M & A practice, but we have also been able to diversify into projects, infrastructure and energy and bolster more specialised work in the corporate and M & A. I think it’s a great moment to have all of them on board and we look forward to growing fast and keeping the momentum going”..As an elected Managing Partner, Rohit said, “We have elections bi-annually to ensure that there is professional management and the idea was to ensure that in all aspects of the firm i.e. internal management as well as service delivery, merit is the ultimate criterion and so we decided to go for an Elected Managing Partner. Thus we have bi-annual elections and I was elected and have been chosen for a term of two years”..Partner Deepto Roy speaking on becoming an Equity Partner said, “Essentially RDA Legal has been there for three years and was started by a classmate of mine from NUJS i.e. Rohit Das. I was in Amarchand till October as a Principal Associate in the Projects and Infrastructure team and was with them for almost five and a half years. I thought the time had come to branch out and look at other options, and I had been on talks with Rohit for quite a while on joining RDA as a partner which I did in December and as a part of new partners joining and other administrative changes we decided to change it to the new name i.e. PXV. Essentially I’m going to look at the Energy and Infrastructure practice as well as the financing bit, which is my specialisation”..Prior to joining PXV, Deepto was a Principal Associate with the Projects and Infrastructure team at Amarchand Mangaldas. He specializes in power, oil and gas, mining and urban infrastructure. He has extensive experience in advising all concerned stakeholders, including developers, sponsors and financiers (domestic and international banks as well as multilateral financial institutions) in relation to development and financing of infrastructure projects. He is an alumni of the National University of Juridical Sciences..Partner Shobha Singh speaking on her role as an Equity Partner said, “I started working with RDA Legal, now PXV from August onwards and have been since associated with them. I will primarily be working on M & A, Private Equity and Joint Venture transactions with a bit of banking as well. My focus will be mainly on M & A and Private Equity. I graduated from NUJS in 2005 and started working with the ICICI Bank and was with them for two years, then moved on to P & A where I worked for three years”..G. T. Thomas Phillippe joined PXV as an Equity Partner in December from AZB & Partners, New Delhi, where he was a Senior Associate. Thomas has also worked with Trilegal in Mumbai. He advises on both domestic and cross border joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, private equity, acquisition financing and corporate commercial matters..Along with the three initial partners i.e. Rohit Das, Pingal Khan and Arindam Pal, the equity partnership now stands at 7 with Mohit Abraham having joined in March and one being a salaried Partner, i.e. Anuj Sahay, the total number of partners in the PXV stands at 8.
