Congress leader Rahul Gandhi told the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that he has deleted his 2021 tweet which allegedly revealed the identity of a 9-year-old rape victim..Advocate Tarannum Cheema appeared for Gandhi and said that the tweet was already withheld in India and has now been taken down internationally as well. The statement was confirmed by Twitter’s lawyer. The Delhi Police presented a sealed cover report stating that it had registered a first information report (FIR) against Gandhi in September 2021 and the investigation in the case is still ongoing. .The submissions were made before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora which was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking action against Gandhi.After considering the Delhi Police’s status report and the statement made by Gandhi’s counsel, the court disposed of the plea noting that the prayers have been satisfied..The case pertains to rape and subsequent death of a 9-year-old Dalit girl in Delhi Cantonment area in 2021. It is alleged that the girl had gone to fetch water at a cooler installed at a crematorium in Delhi's Purana Nangal area. The priest there along with three others allegedly murdered and raped the minor. Gandhi subsequently visited the parents of the girl and photos of him consoling them were later tweeted from his official Twitter handle.The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) later filed a complaint seeking criminal action against Gandhi..In the previous hearing, the High Court had asked Gandhi to delete the post.
