After a nine-year tenure, Prof Dr Paramjit S Jaswal has left the office of Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala..As of November 30, Prof Dr Anand Pawar has been designated as the officiating Vice-Chancellor of RGNUL by the Chancellor of the University..Prof Pawar also presently holds the posts of Controller of Examinations, Dean of Student Welfare and Warden at RGNUL. Among other roles, he is a member of the Disciplinary Committee at RGNUL..He has served as Officiating Vice-Chancellor twice before at HNLU, Raipur between 2010 and 2011. He joined RGNUL as a Professor of Law in February 2013. He has earlier taught at HNLU, Raipur, Barkatullah University, Bhopal and Government Law College, Bhopal..In 2018, Prof Pawar was accused of sexual harassment by a colleague at RGNUL, and an Internal Complaints Committee was formed to examine the issue. The complainant, however, moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, raising grievance that the constitution of the ICC was not proper. This case is still pending before the High Court. .On Tuesday, it was notified by RGNUL that the Chancellor had accepted Prof Jaswal's request to be relieved of his duties and responsibilities as the Vice-Chancellor of the University. .An office order revealing the development states,"... the Hon'ble Chancellor RGNUL, Punjab has designated Prof Dr Anand Pawar, Senior most Professor of the University to perform the functions of the Vice-Chancellor until the new Vice-Chancellor assumes office.".Consequent to his relinquishing office at RGNUL, Prof Jaswal is slated to joint SRM University, Sonepat as its Vice-Chancellor, reports Legally India. .Jaswal was appointed to RGNUL as its Vice-Chancellor in February 2011. .The final leg of his time at RGNUL saw rising friction between the administration and the students, spilling over to student protests in 2019 over the controversial actions of Administrative Officer SP Singh, who eventually resigned from his post.
