A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court to allow litigants access to virtual court hearings through the apex court's mobile application.
When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, a Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra deferred the case for October 18.
"I will take stock of the situation," the CJI said while adjourning the case.
Notably, the same Bench had in September dismissed a plea seeking the establishment of virtual hearing or video conference facilities in all district courts across the country.
The CJI had in October last year stated that courts should not adopt technology only because he had urged them to.
The CJI had in May that year emphasised that the judiciary and judges have to embrace technology for the benefit of litigants.
