A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Delhi High Court to ban Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. .The PIL has been filed by one Surjit Singh Yadav, a 60-year-old farmer and head of an organisation named 'Hindu Sena'. Yadav has sought directions to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to revoke the show's certification. He has argued that the the series "distorted the actual identities" of the terrorists who hijacked the plane in 1999..The plea alleges that the religious identities of the hijackers have been distorted in the show as the real hijackers were Muslims having names Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar Sayeed, Sunny Ahmad Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir.Whereas, in the Netflix series, the hijackers are named “Bhola” and “Shankar” which are names of Lord Shiva. This hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindu community and spreads misinformation due to distortion of facts, the plea claims."That the series further doesn't acknowledge the long-term impact of the terrorists released during the hijacking, diminishing the severity of the real-life events. That the concealing the real identities of the terrorists and using the names like Bhola and Shankar for them is an absolute distortion from the real facts and incidents and insult to Hindu Community as the names Bhola and Shankar are the other names of Lord Shiva," the plea argued..The PIL has been filed through Advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh.
