PIL against ban on Jaswant Singhs book

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Gujarat High Court challenging the ban on Jaswant Singhs book, ‘Jinnah – India, Partition, Independence’. The Government of Gujarat has banned the publication, sale and circulation of the book pursuant to a notification under Section 95 of the Code of Criminal Procedure read with Sections 153A and 153B of the Indian Penal Code. Section 95 deals with the power to declare certain publications forfeited and to issue search warrants. However, the Gujarat government’s notification does not mention a threat to public order, or any other grounds that would attract Section 95.
