One crore cases settled at 3rd National Lok Adalat in one day

More than 1 crore cases were settled at the third National Lok Adalat of 2022 held on August 13. .According to a press release issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), more than 75 lakh pre litigation cases, 25 lakh pending cases were disposed of at the Lok Adalat breaching the 1 crore mark."The present Lok Adalat has breached the 1 crore mark in settling disputes along with recording a settlement amount to the tune of ₹90 billion, thus creating history by breaking the records of previous years," the press release said. The 3rd Lok Adalat was held in all the States and Union Territories except Delhi under the aegis of Chief Justice of India designate Justice UU Lalit who is also the Executive chairperson of NALSA.The Lok Adalat in Delhi was postponed due to full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day and it will now be organised on August 20.NALSA organises National Lok Adalats every quarter to provide easy, economical, informal access to Justice to litigants, specially those from the poorer sections of society.Lok Adalats take up pending civil cases, compoundable criminal cases and matrimonial cases excluding divorce. They are seen as alternate dispute resolution mechanism at a time when courts are burdened with high pendency.The aim is to lessen the burden on regular courts by 'targeting pending cases as well as those in pipeline..During the interaction with the chairpersons and member secretaries of the State Legal Services Authorities, Justice UU Lalit said that Lok Adalat has created history in the justice dispensation system by providing a supplementary fora to litigants for satisfactory and timely settlement of their disputes..In the 2nd National Lok Adalat a total of 95,78,209 cases were settled with a total settlement amount of ₹ 9,422 crores. .[Read Press Release]
