NUJS wins South Asia Regional Round of FDI International Arbitration Moot Competition

West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata won the 7th edition of the South Asia Regional Rounds of the FDI International Arbitration Moot Competition. The event was organised by Kachwaha & Partners, and took place in New Delhi from August 30 to September 1.

The finals, held on September 1, were judged by Justice Indu Malhotra of the Supreme Court of India, Justice Prateek Jalan of the Delhi High Court, and Nish Shetty, Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution (Asia-Pacific) at Clifford Chance, Singapore.

The finals took place between WBNUJS and the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala (RGNUL). WBNUJS also won the Best Memorial for the claimant. The Best Memorial for the respondent was awarded to National Law University, Delhi. The other semi-finalists were OP Jindal Global University, Sonepat and National Law University, Odisha.

Sreeja Sengupta from WBNUJS was awarded the Best Speaker in the finals. The award for the overall Best Speaker of the preliminary rounds went to Ayush Kashyap from Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur.

The FDI International Arbitration Moot Competition competition saw a record 21 teams pitted against each other. A total of 116 lawyers and arbitration practitioners from the Bar judged the rounds.

The global finals will take place at the University of Miami from November 7-10, 2019. The top two Indian teams will receive financial support from the global organizers and the finalists and semi-finalists will be entitled to waiver of registration fees.
