The Supreme Court today sought a report from State NRC Co-ordinator Prateek Hajela on the ramifications of allowing claims pertaining to change in legacy by submission of additional documents..The Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Rohinton Nariman, which is hearing the case on National Register of Citizens (NRC), remarked that the case involves human problems of very huge magnitude..Therefore, on the question of whether at the stage of filing of claims, a claimant should be allowed to change legacy and submit additional documents, the court ordered the following:.“We are of the view that the ramifications of the proposed change should be addressed by State NRC co-ordinator Prateek Hajela. We request Mr. Hajela to submit a report indicating the feasibility, advantages and disadvantages if the aforesaid change is allowed.”.The Court, therefore also postponed the date of filing of claims from August 30..Further, the Court also took on record the report submitted by Hajela setting out the district wise data of people excluded from NRC..The Court then said that it should consider the necessity of carrying out the sample re-verification of at least 10 per cent of the names included in the final draft NRC..It, therefore, directed Prateek Hajela to submit a report in this regard and the possible time frame when such an exercise can begin if ordered by the Court and the time frame within which the same can be completed..The case will now be heard on September 5..Read the order below.
