The Delhi High Court has stepped in to deal with vacancies in Family Courts in Delhi..A Bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and V Kameswar Rao ordered the Government of NCT of Delhi to notify the appointments recommended by the High Court, which had been approved by the Cabinet of Delhi government. It also sought a response from the Delhi government on why appointments were not made despite the Delhi High Court making recommendations to that effect..The High Court had made at least nine recommendations two months back, for appointment of Presiding Officers to various Family Courts. In spite of that, no appointments were notified..Subsequently, a judge of the High Court had addressed a letter to the Chief Justice of the High Court on September 29 indicating the difficulties faced due to notification not being issued for appointment and posting of Presiding Officers in various Family Courts..On the basis of the said letter, the High Court had registered a suo moto case and issued notice to the Delhi government on October 3..When the matter came up for hearing on October 12, the Court noted that the working of more than 9 Family Courts has been adversely affected.
