In a special meeting, the General Council of the National Law University Odisha (NLUO) has approved 25% horizontal reservation for domicile students from Orissa. .A press release issued in this regard states that the 25% reservation will be applicable across categories such as undergraduate and post-graduate programmes at NLUO. .For the undergraduate programme, the eligibility criteria for claiming reservation is that candidates should have passed 12th class or any equivalent examination from the state of Odisha and should secure at least 60% marks in the said examination from any recognized University in Odisha. .For the post graduate Programme, the candidates should have passed any undergraduate law programme or any other equivalent programme and should have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the said examination from any recognized University in Odisha, in order to avail the 25% domicile reservation. .It is reported that NLUO Vice-Chancellor Prof Srikishna Deva Rao stated,"The domicile reservation will be effective from the 2020-21 academic year across the categories.".The NLUO, set up in Cuttack commenced its institutional activities from 2009 and presently has 180 seats under undergraduate programme and 50 seats in its post-graduation course. .The press release also states that the above reservation would be subject to CLAT score as well..On a similar note, recently it was reported that the Karnataka government is planning to introduce a Bill to provide 25% reservation for state domicile students at National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore. The Bill is expected to be moved during the next Assembly session..Karnataka Law Minister JC Madhuswamy has stated that The National Law School of India (Amendment) Bill, 2019 will be moved to provide reservation to those students who have studied in Karnataka for at least 10 years..[Read the press release here]
