The Supreme Court today asked the CBSE and the Central government whether it would be possible to allow candidates, who had appeared for Phase 1 of NEET, to appear for Phase 2 scheduled for July 24..A Bench of Justices Anil R Dave, Shiva Kirti Singh and AK Goel heard different States today for nearly three hours, before it posed the question to Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar and Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand..Pinky Anand, appearing for CBSE, told the court that it might not be impossible, but would be very difficult..Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, appearing for the Central government, suggested that those students who had applied for phase 1 but did not sit for the exam, should be allowed to appear for phase 2..The court asked both the Centre and CBSE to submit their suggestions/stance tomorrow..Earlier a battery of Senior Advocates appeared and argued for various States. Gopal Subramanium argued for Jammu & Kashmir, Tushar Mehta for Gujarat, PP Rao for Andhra Pradesh, Shyam Divan for Maharashtra and V Giri for Kerala. All the States submitted that the State entrance exam/ Common Entrance test should be allowed to happen this year and that NEET can be implemented from next year..The matter will now be taken up at 2 pm tomorrow.
