Muslims used for political ends; inclusion in OBCs was for electoral gain: Calcutta High Court

The Court said religion had been the sole criterion for declaring these communities as OBCs and rejected State's reliance on Sachar Committee report to justify its argument that Muslim community was backward.

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday said the Muslim community was treated as a "commodity for political ends" when the West Bengal government classified 77 classes of Muslims as backward between 2010 and 2012 [Amal Chandra Das vs State of West Bengal].
