Taking note of the clash that broke out between a few Delhi Police personnel and a Sikh father-son duo in Mukherjee Nagar on June 17, 2019, the Delhi High Court has sought an interim report from the Delhi Police in the matter..Condemning the Delhi Police’s attack on the minor son during the clash, the Court has also issued notice to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Government and Delhi Police in a petition seeking an independent probe into the incident..The Court has further directed media to restrain from disclosing or revealing the identity of the minor son in any manner..The matter was taken up by a Vacation Bench of Justices Jayant Nath and Najmi Waziri after it was mentioned for an urgent hearing earlier in the day..The petition by advocate Dr Seema Singhal seeks to bring to notice “the barbaric, horrific and malafide use of power” by the certain Delhi police officers on June 17, 2019..The petitioner informs,.“.. an innocent gentleman namely Sarabjeet Singh and his minor son were brutally beaten up by sticks and pistol butts by several policemen when his vehicle, a Gramin Seva auto brushed against a police Emergency Response Vehicle(ER). A service gun was pointed towards the minor boy by these policemen threatening him of dire consequences.”.The attack, the petitioner claims, is wholly arbitrary, unjust, oppressive and destructive of their Constitutional rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India..The petitioner, therefore, seeks actions against the officials who are “prima facie guilty of manhandling and committing atrocities” on the father-son duo..The incident also led to huge unrest amongst the general public at large who gathered in huge numbers in front of the police station, Mukherjee Nagar, after a video of the incident went viral on social media..Apart from seeking compensation for the victims of the police brutality, the petition also calls for a departmental inquiry against all the erring police officers including the SHO of Police Station, Mukherjee Nagar..The petitioner was represented by Advocates Rubinder Ghumman and Sangeeta Bharti. .The matter would be heard next on July 2.
