Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai has approved a menstrual leave policy for its students..The policy proposed by the Student Bar Council was unanimously approved by the Executive Council on April 4..According to the office order communicating the policy, students will be granted one menstrual leave per month with a cap of five leaves per semester. There is no requirement for a medical certificate, however students have to self-certify in physical mode within 7 days of availing of this leave. Students are also expected to meet the minimum attendance criteria of 67% as mandated by the University regulations to be eligible for this leave. The leaves will not be applicable during any examinations or viva voce.The policy will be applicable for all menstruating students on campus and goes beyond gender binaries..Registrar in-charge at MNLU Dr Pratapsinh Salunke confirmed the approval of the policy and said, "This is an initiative to ensure inclusivity and also to take a step further in gender justice. These leaves are essential and all educational institutions should be progressive and pragmatic.
