Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, who has ushered technological advancements in Indian judiciary, said on Saturday that technological dependence has its drawbacks. .In this regard, he highlighted the Microsoft outage of July 19 which knocked out many computers and servers across the world and paralysed services and telecommunication..He said his flight from Delhi to Madurai was nearly cancelled because of the outage."I am an ardent believer of the benefits of technology and just yesterday we saw the adverse effects of technological dependance. After the Microsoft outage flights all across the country were cancelled. Numerous flights from Delhi were cancelled but I think it is the love of the people of Madurai which was showered upon me that has ensured my presence amongst all of you today," said the CJI. The CJI was speaking at the Vigentennial Celebrations in the Madurai bench of Madras High Court on the completion of 20 years of the Madurai bench..On Friday, many Windows users experienced a sudden Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), causing significant disruptions globally. However as per reports, contrary to initial assumptions, the issue was not caused by Microsoft but by a recent update from Crowdstrike, a US-based cybersecurity company. The BSOD is a critical error screen that forces the system to freeze making it temporarily unusable. .The live-streaming of a couple of courtrooms in the Supreme Court was also adversely affected due to the Microsoft Outage. The courts where livestream could not happen had forced lawyers to travel physically to the top court and argue and many lawyers were forced to seek adjournment of their cases. CJI Chandrachud had finished his board of cases by 12 pm yesterday for his travel to Madurai.
